借鉴了卡里加里博士的小屋以及金.维多的波西米亚人中的某些桥段，同时影片的最后部分也被金刚借鉴。看过这个故事的人（或者是看过这部电影的人）一定会更加的确定福尔摩斯和杜平间的相似性。惊悚恐怖的氛围其实略缺乏但是却有种不经意的喜剧效果，尤其是三个人争论是丹麦人还是德国人的桥段很搞笑。
